Túristvándi, Calvinist church

turistvandi

"This settlement near to the mouth of the Túr, in the region of Tiszahát in Szatmár, was called Istvándi in the Middle Ages. A good portion of the building we see today dates to medieval times. The sanctuary ending in five sides of an octagon extends from the east side of the nave. The western tower was built in the 19th century. The western portal with its pointed arch can be seen in secondary usage. The southern wall of the sanctuary has tracery windows, and the stone grates mimic the tracery in the nave. The triumphal arch is pointed, and a sacristy door is found in the northern wall of the sanctuary. This medieval church was constructed in one building campaign, and dates to the early 16th century."
