Szamosújlak, Calvinist church

szamosujlak

"The church was already standing on the right bank of the Szamos River in 1329. The small, east-facing building still appears today in its medieval form. Its nave has a rectangular floor plan, and a two-bay sanctuary of the same width extends from it, terminating in fives sides of an octagon. The church was built in two periods: at the end of the 13th century and at the beginning of the 14th. The later remodeling took place at the latest in the middle of the 14th century, and the nave and the windows of the sanctuary date to this period. The furnishings of the church are from the 19th century. The restoration work, which began in 1990, earned a Europa Nostra prize."
