Nagyszekeres, Calvinist church

nagyszekeres

"This settlement has been known about since the end of the 12th century, and royal servants – coachmen – lived in the village. The medieval church is located on a small island in a stream. The building has a rectangular nave and a two-bayed, polygonal sanctuary. There are arched doorways in the western and southern facade, and Gothic windows in the south wall of the nave, and the southeast and south walls of the sanctuary. The sanctuary was originally covered by a ribbed vault, which was partially reconstructed from fragments found on the spot. The church dates to a single period, and was most likely built around 1500. The pulpit on the south side of the triumphal arch was made in 1773, while additional elements of the wooden furnishings and the 17.5-meter-high belltower were constructed at the end of the 18th century."
