Acâş, Calvinist church

akos

"The settlement is located on the left bank of the Crasna, on the edge of the Great Plains. The first mention of the place was in 1342, while the monastery of the Virgin Mary was referred to in 1421. The village became Calvinist in the 16th century, and the first priest is cited in 1597. The brick church was built as a three-aisled basilica without a transept. There are openings into the main apse from the spaces above the side apses. The western facade is built with two towers, which were constructed with a base opening towards the nave. The church was built in the 12th century. The earthquake of 1834 severely damaged the church, and its restoration, led by Frigyes Schulek, was completed in 1902."
